Why the SAP HANA development team rocks - they are fixing bugs! Back in November, I wrote a blog post http://scn.sap.com/community/developer-center/hana/blog/2012/11/26/stop-and-start-rules-for-hana-on-aws to explain why you want to stop your HANA instances in AWS to avoid excessive compute charges when you are not using the instance.
It turned out that with the .38 release on AWS, if you stopped the instance without stopping the HANA database, when you would go to start the instance back up, the HANA database was left in a strange state where you could not use the HANA database - ouch.
After 4 days of testing, it looks like you can safely stop the AWS instance without stopping the HANA database. THANK YOU SAP DEVELOPMENT TEAM!
Now, when my wife tells me - it's time to run errands, I don't have to wait an extra 2 to 5 minutes for HANA to shut down before stopping the AWS instance - W00T!
